About Us

We care about education for the next generation

The British Standard is a social enterprise organisation dedicated to teaching English with the British standard of education.

The Asian education system places significant emphasis on basic skills development, such as numeracy and literacy, in the aim for students to achieve high grades in exams. Although this type of education system has placed South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong in top positions of the global education rankings according to Pearsons Education, it is extremely rigid and often relies on students to memorise knowledge rather than use it. The drawback of this for students is the lack of personal development in other skill sets and limited room for creativity; as well as build-up of high levels of stress. It has been acknowledged by the Education Bureau that although the quantity of English speaking people in Hong Kong has increased, the subsequent quality has decreased.

Britain is one of the top ranking countries for education in the west and has an education system that differs from that of top Asian countries - students are encouraged to use knowledge they are taught and to apply it in different scenarios; creativity and free thinking are an integral part of the personal development of students. The British Standard aims to embody and promote the British education system in Hong Kong, supporting schools and businesses by promoting creativity and free thinking through using explicit and tacit knowledge.

As a social enterprise organisation, our objective is not only to increase the quality of spoken English in Hong Kong, but to also provoke people to think freely without limits. English is not a fixed formula as taught in many Hong Kong schools, it is a dynamic yet complex language and we intend to help teach it in a way to help learners reach native standards. We also look to research, improve teaching methods and raise awareness for children with special needs, an often overlooked part of society. Hong Kong is an Alpha+ world city, and the next generation should be developed in a way befitting to complement this prestigious city. We hope to be a part of  Hong Kong's future development.
